Lt. Dahringer was admitted to the First Officers' Training Camp at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, and received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant. After leaving Fort Sheridan he was ordered to Camp Grant, Illinois, and finally transferred to the Aviation School at Austin, Texas. He was then ordered to France as a casual officer, sailing in March, 1918. After taking further instruction in the artillery school at Samur, France, Lt. Dahringer studied in the aviation schools and was then attached to the First Aero Squadron as an observer. In June, 1918, he was promoted to First Lieutenant. While on an observation mission he died in a plane crash, along with the pilot, Lt. William B. Cowart.
