Lt. Dushek entered the First Officers' Training Camp at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, where he was assigned to the Third Company. After a month's study he was transferred to the Air Service and ordered to the training school at Champaign, Illinois, where he was promoted to Sergeant and Second Lieutenant. In October, 1917, Lt. Dushek went overseas, landing in Italy, where he was stationed at Camp Foggio for four months, later going to France and attached to the Eighth, Second and Third Instruction Centers. He was then promoted to First Lieutenant. He died while instructing at Issodoun when he was instantly killed in a plane crash.
